About the Yellowstone Angler
Mission Statment:

George Anderson started the Yellowstone Angler in the fall of 1979,  and from the beginning our desire was to help our customers learn more about fly fishing,  and to provide our expertise so that they could make the best decisions on what to buy in terms of tackle, flies, gear and clothing.  With our extensive knowledge of worldwide fly fishing, in both fresh and saltwater, we can usually answer your questions on tackle and equipment for a particular kind of fishing or destination because we have most likely been there, and we'll be able to advise you on the exact right tackle and clothing to bring on your trip.  George, James and our staff not only know trout fishing across the US but we've traveled the globe in search of the finest fly fishing on the planet!  We know trout fishing here in the lower 48 and Alaska, but we've also gained a lot of trout fishing experience in exotic places like Argentina, Chile, and New Zealand. Our love for saltwater flats fly fishing has taken us to all over the Caribbean and we've chased sailfish and marlin in places like Costa Rica and Venezuela.  Our staff includes some steelhead and Atlantic salmon fanatics, who are well versed in spey rods and spey casting, traveling to British Columbia and even Russia for steelhead and Atlantic salmon.

Our goal is to provide you with the best gear in the fly fishing industry, at a good price, while giving you the absolute best in service.  Service is everything to us. We treat everyone with equal respect and attention, whether you are buying a couple of flies or a top of the line rod and reel outfit.  We are known for our expertise in rigging tackle, knowing the best knots, splices, and loop to loop connections that make our outfits 100% reliable.  This is especially important in saltwater and Big Game fly fishing, where a little mistake in rigging can cost you the fish of a lifetime!   We take pride in being honest with our advice on tackle and equipment, and you'll appreciate our helpful suggestions on the exact gear you'll need for the fishing you will be doing. You will find that we have a wide variety of tackle and gear at various price levels in our shop and on-line catalog.  There are many new and exciting rods and reels at very affordable prices and we have weeded through what is on the market to provide you with the very best products at all price levels!     You can count on us to make your fly shop buying experience pleasurable and be assured that the products you'll be receiving are ones we've used ourselves that have our complete confidence.

We aren't afraid to give our customers straight answers that cut through the BS in the fly fishing industry.  You'll enjoy reading our controversial rod shootouts and tackle comparisons on our website.  While we don't claim to have the right answers all the time, our readers worldwide have agreed with our findings more than 90% of the time.

Guided Trips
If you have an opportunity to visit our store, you'll be greeted with a smile from one of our enthusiastic employees, who will be happy to help with your every need.  Our fishing enthusiasm is also evident in the wonderful Outfitters and guides that work with us to provide our customers with a memorable day on the stream.   We'll make your vacation an unforgettable one, by matching you up with some of the best trout guides in Montana, and putting you in the hot spots where we've found the best fishing.   This might be a float trip on the Yellowstone, an exciting day of dry fly fishing or visual nymphing  on the spring creeks, or perhaps an enjoyable day in Yellowstone Park fishing for sassy native Cutthroat trout.  We have found it a real privilege to work with these Outfitters and Guides over the years and you will too.  Not only do these guys work hard to get you into fish, they are the kind of people that you will enjoy spending a day with, regardless of the fishing.  For more information on our guided services and the guides themselves, please visit our website.
