The Perfect. The reel that needs no introduction, the reel that is perhaps the most famous product ever to have left the Hardy factory in Alnwick. A timeless design utilising the most modern technology made once again in Alnwick, England - the Perfect really does typify the Heritage range.
The high quality, agate line guard, the dovetailed reel fitting, the durable gunmetal grey, anodised finish with distinctive ivorine handle all make this one of history's most strikingly recognisable reels. And how well it fishes - fifteen stainless steel ball-bearings give the smoothest of winds. Please specify right or left hand retrieve.
The 2010 salmon Perfect takes the best features from the various designs over the years - check mechanism and dimensions from the 1921 Perfect, the 1972 reel back and a plate design which echoes that of 1912 Perfect. Combine these with Barstock Aluminium construction, 18 stainless steel ball bearing race, ivorine type handle and revolving line guard, and the fact that the Perfect reel design has been undergoing field testing since 1921 (dup. MkII version) and Charlie Norris, the Hardy Reel Designer, believes the Perfect Hardy is launching for 2010 is possibly the best Hardy Perfect salmon reel hardy has ever made.
Hardy Reel Designer, Charlie Norris said;
"The St George Salmon reels were incredibly advanced for their day. Using a mid arbour spool, these reels were also fitted as standard with such innovative features as a circular revolving line guard, twin handles and compensating check.
"Today we have taken the same features and incorporated them into a fully bar stock version of the reel which is available with a mid arbour #9/10 spool and a standard arbour #11/12 spool."
Another Hardy legend. Those looks. Who doesn't love that sweeping 'S' shaped handle? But the beauty is more than skin deep. The Cascapedia's durability is proven over decades of use. The capture of thousands of fish testify to this incredible reel's performance. There's a Cascapedia for every fishing situation. The smaller sized models have a centralised click-check braking system which famously protects the lightest tippets. The eight/nine weight reels and upwards are braked by a one-way steel clutch, designed for faultless big fish handling.
This wonderful classic reel has now been upgraded with the use bar stock aluminum, making it much stronger and tougher than the original reels. It is also now annodized in the same great looking colors of aluminum and grey. The Featherweight was the first good fly reel I bought back in the mid 1960's and I used it hard for over thirty years and then passed it on to my son James. I loved the sound of those clicker pawls screaming when a big trout took off on a strong run! The clicker pawl system is still the best for fishing really light tippets since the reel doesn't over-run at all when you strip off line using light drag settings. Simply a joy to use in a nice light weight design that compliments any rod. Capacity is WF-4-F with 95 yd. 20 lb. micron. Size is 2 7/8 inches and the weight is only 3 3/8 oz. The Hardy Princess is an addition to the current ‘classic lightweight' series which has been an extremely popular range since its original launch in 1958. This additional size to the current range has been requested by markets across the globe who already love the Flyweight, Featherweight and LRH Lightweight.
Since Hardy stopped making the Marquis we have been inundated by requests for its reinstatement. So that's what we've done. This is a new Marquis salmon reel in sizes one, two and three, built to the original design. We've made the new reels and spools interchangeable with all the originals because we know exactly what happens. Over the years, a frame gets dropped, buckled or broken. You still have the spools and the lines that you love but without a new reel frame, they're useless. Not now. You're back in business. The new reels are all manufactured from high-grade aluminium with the polished silver rim style that everyone agrees is the Marquis at its best. This isn't quite the original Marquis though. Because we can't resist improving things we've slightly redesigned the internal cam to give an increased range to the click-check.
Hardy technology and experience have combined to produce the Uniqua, a reel of exceptional lightness and strength. The offset drag system is sensitive, reliable and quickly adjustable. The reel can be easily changed from left to right hand wind and the deep spools take a great deal of backing in even the smaller sizes. The Uniqua is cageless in its smaller sizes so these can be palmed when the fish is running. On the larger reels, we have added a cage for the extra strength you need for big fish. These bigger reels have been designed to take modern longer bellied lines along with a couple of hundred yards of backing. The reels are designed to marry perfectly with the Uniqua rods and produce a complete rod/reel combination for every angling challenge.
