The benchmark in trout rods

These wonderful rods have consistently rated at the top of our shootouts for trout fishing rods.  These are medium fast to fast action rods that have plenty of power to punch out a long line or handle heavy nymphs and split shot with ease.  These rods have explosive power but also have softer tips to deliver superb accuracy and delicate presentations.  These rods are a handsome dark olive green with a non-gloss finish, unbreakable nickel/titanium one foot guides, and handsome brown annodized seats with California Buckeye burl wood inserts.  Experienced casters love these light high performance GLX rods.  These may be the best all around trout rods on the planet!   Most are 4 piece for easy traveling.  The 6-weight rod has a short extension butt.

George Anderson helped Steve Rajeff design these light action rods for delicacy and presentation.
George and Steve designed these rods right here on the Livingston Spring Creeks where accuracy and presentation are at a premium.  These are the ultimate Spring Creek/small stream/ tailwater rods on the market today!   They have the same lighter, more flexible tips of the StreamDance GLX rods but are lighter in weight and slightly softer in action.   These rods load perfectly with the line sizes they are designed for yet still have plenty of power to throw long.   The color is a lighter olive than the StreamDance GLX but the same non-glare satin finish is used.  These rods have smaller Payne style grips, attractive wood burl reel seats and non-breakable single foot guides.  George's favorites are the 8'8" #3 and the 8 1/2 foot #4.

High performance rods at a lower price
These EastFork rods utilize extra high modulus graphite and many of the designs of the GLX rods but at a nice price.  The fast taper and stiff designs help the caster form tight loops for added control in all conditions. A rich full body cabernet satin color enhances the blank.  Good looking skeleton annodized seats are used with California burl inserts.  The 9 foot #7 is definitely the cherry picker of the Eastfork line up - what a sweet rod for chucking streamers or big nymphs!

Native Run GLX Fly Rods

!

Our favorite big river rods!

These new Native Run GLX rods have replaced the old, familiar black GLX versions but are very similar to the older rods with that powerful but precise GLX action. The 9 foot #8 Native Run placed #2 in our 8-Weight Shootout and the only thing that beat it was another Loomis rod - the CrossCurrent GLX!   This rod is better suited for trout and steelhead though, with not quite as stout an action as the CrossCurrent , and smaller one-foot guides to keep the weight down.  We also like the full wells grip.  These are handsome rods are a beautiful non-glare olive finish with brown wraps and feature the new nickel/titanium unbreakable one foot guides.   These are all four piece rods now, and easier to pack around for traveling.    The 9 foot #8 is a great streamer rod, and our favorite for big rainbows in Alaska.  The 9 1/2 and 10 foot rods are superb for both steelhead and salmon.   Wonderfully light to cast all day yet with great power for playing big fish.  These rods will mend line more easily than the shorter rods and allow you to do a better job fishing dry flies.

Crosscurrent GLX Fly Rods

!

The best saltwater fly rods period!

Saltwater flyfishing is a passion - it's usually advantage fish, not angler. These Loomis CrossCurrent GLX rods have changed all that.  The CrossCurrent GLX 9 foot #8 won our 8-Weight Shootout handily, and their 9 foot #10 and #11 line rods have proven to be the best permit and tarpon rods around. These are powerful rods that will drive the line with  incredible line speed, and have the ability to throw good tight loops into a strong wind.  We often step up one line size in the #10-11 line rods, to load the rod better at short to medium distances but this doesn't affect their outstanding ability to throw long.  Good casters love the explosive power on tap, yet these rods cast surprisingly well at closer distances with their softer tips. These are great looking rods with an Olive finish and brown wraps.  The Recoil stripping guides and the nickel/titanium snake guides are unbreakable, which is a great help when you accidently step on one in the boat!  These are all four piece rods, making them a lot easier to pack around especially for the traveling angler.  George's favorites are the 9 foot #8 for bones, the 9 foot #9 for redfish and snook (and big bonefish), the 9 foot #10 for permit and baby tarpon, and the 9 foot #11 for big tarpon.   The 9 foot #11 is perhaps the best tarpon rod in existence today.  Load it with a #12 line and it's a breeze to cast all day.  In the right hands this rod will land a 100 lb. tarpon in fifteen minutes!

Roaring River Switch Rods

!

Throw long casts with one or two hands!

Steve Rajeff came up with these neat Switch rods, which are incredibly fun to use.   You can fish them single handed, use them with roll casts or with full-on spey casting techniques.  Using a short belly spey line will let you single hand spey cast with ease, providing incredible line control and distance.  These work great with the short belly spey lines. The combination of a small single haul and the spey casting motion will enable you to cover water you may have thought only possible with 14' rods and longer!

Here are World Champion Two Handed Distance caster Steve Rajeff's picks from the Loomis line-up of Roaring River Spey rods
Loomis makes some of the best Spey rods in the world - 25 different models at last count.  Different rods for different casting styles, greased line fishing or dredging the bottom. The Roaring River series of rods now comprises three series - The Greased Line series, the Dredger series, and the Stinger series, each with 5-9 different lengths and line weights.  We felt that the best way to cut through this maze was to ask our friend Steve Rajeff to give us his top picks of the whole bunch so here they are:   For a great all around rod try the Stinger GLX 12' 6" 8/9. This light and powerful rod is also a a wonderful overhead casting rod for windy places like Argentina.  For greased line fishing in big water, where you need the perfect swing speed and fly control, it is hard to beat the Greased Line Series GLX 16 foot 9/10 for sheer casting pleasure!    Like to throw those Skagit short belly sink tip lines?    Then the Dredger GLX is your baby.  The 14 foot 9/10 gets the job done on big rivers like the Skeena and Skagit and is also a great greased line rod if you drop down to a mid-belly 8/9 line. For a lighter rod, then the pick is the Dredger GLX 13' 4" 7/8 line rod.
