Orvis has totally revamped the Recon series and this is a much different (and better) rod than the original Recon 8-weight. The new rod is a lot more powerful and handles those mid to long distances with ease, tracking well and giving me nice tight loops. The Recon is our choice for the best mid-priced rod if you want something that will perform well at all distances, but is especially good at mid to longer distances, and in the wind.
